Joanna Newsom Loses Voice, Cancels Hamburg Gig
I could’ve chosen to see Joanna in Berlin playing in wonderful Volksbühne, but I wanted to go somewhere new. So I skipped classes on Thursday and spent 60 Euro for the train ride to Hamburg. Imagine how gutted I was, showing up at Kampnagel two hours before the doors open, only to find this:
It says Joanna has to cancel the show due to health reasons. Ticket holders should hold on to the ticket, which remains valid and the presenter would try to reschedule another concert. If unable to attend the new show, ticket holders can ask for a refund.
A sheepish staff told me there was another guy coming all the way from Israel to see Joanna play. There was no information as to when a new gig would take place, but it was likely to be hosted at another venue. I went home and checked out the presenter’s website,which says Joanna canceled the show because she lost her voice; a new gig would hopefully be rescheduled in fall. I have yet to find out how the concert went in Berlin on Wednesday. Did she go out partying all night maybe? It’s Berlin after all! Anyways let’s hope she gets her voice back soon…and that she’ll play Berlin again…train rides are expensive in Germany and I can’t afford to skip more classes…
